Stanley Tay Wee King Transforms Haw Par Villa with Heritage Lighting
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Stanley Tay Wee King, in collaboration with Illuminating Asia, has revitalized Singapore's Haw Par Villa through a heritage lighting project, breathing new life into the iconic sculptures and dioramas. The project, commissioned by the Singapore Tourism Board, aimed to re-engage visitors with the timeless folklores and attract a new generation to the oriental park.
The innovative lighting design is a delicate balance of staying true to the sculptures' stories while enhancing accessibility. Moving lights at the park's entrance draw visitors in, leading them to key sculptures where handcrafted lighting showcases the stories to great effect. The project involved customizing various lighting products to exact specifications and utilizing a Gobo projector for a captivating moving light show.
The massive engineering undertaking covered over 8.5 hectares of the park, lighting up more than 20 individual sculpture attractions. The project, which began in February 2020 and concluded in December 2020, faced challenges due to the park's status as a national heritage site, requiring innovative solutions to achieve the desired lighting effects.
The successful transformation of Haw Par Villa through heritage lighting has earned Stanley Tay Wee King and the Illuminating Asia team the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2022, recognizing their practical, innovative, and industry-leading creation that contributes to a better world.
