Ya-Ching Yu's Public Space Design, "Undulating Symphonic Movement," Transforms Taipei Lobby into a Musical Oasis
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ya-Ching Yu's latest project, "Undulating Symphonic Movement," has transformed a Taipei lobby into a musical oasis, drawing inspiration from the Chinese -Tang era to create a symmetrical square space that resonates with acoustic echoes. The design features undulating wave-like ceilings, solid hardwood benches, and a chiaroscuro effect of intermittent black iron slats, visually mimicking a piano keyboard. The lobby offers a calm retreat in the midst of a bustling city, with its unique design elements reflecting the flow of music and sound.
This lobby project stands out with its 10ft floor-to-ceiling double doors, featuring asymmetrical panels of woven brass, wood-grained copper sheeting, mirrors, and clear glass. The space also includes a floor-to-ceiling glass wall with vertical iron slats, offering an open line of sight into an urban garden. Dark teak woods, light and dark grey marble floors, and a large, solid wood-beam seating area further enhance the unique ambiance of the space.
The realization of this design involved the use of custom 10ft entryway doors woven with brass, wood-grained copper sheeting, tawny mirror, and clear glass. The interior features subdued materials such as natural wood, chiseled granite, marble, metals, and teak veneers. The warm, curving wooden ceiling, formed on-site, draws the eye upward to a central brass tube pendant light resembling organ pipes. The lobby spans 82.5m2 of interior space and includes a guardâs desk, elevator access, personal mailboxes, and a spiral staircase leading to a shared residential area.
