GRND Coffee, a small space retail design, was completed in May 2019 by architect Fahad AlHumaidi and interior designer Noura Alshammari in Kuwait.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GRND Coffee, a project by architect Fahad AlHumaidi and interior designer Noura Alshammari, is a unique cafe design that offers a speciality coffee experience in a small space. The design was inspired by the clients' love of coffee and their journey, which began with a bag of single-origin coffee, a blade grinder, and a French press.
The cafe's unique properties include a separate steel structure finished with oak wood in a herringbone pattern with brass dividers, echoed by brass spacers in the polished terrazzo floor. To maximize the 30 square meter space, the design features upholstered benches along one wall accompanied by small, lightweight tables that can be easily moved to suit patronsâ needs.
The project, which started in March 2019, overcame challenges posed by the old building's weak wall structure by creating a separate steel structure to accommodate the design. The cafe's design features marble surfaces and polished brass inserts that meld with industrial elements, creating a visually stunning and functional space.
Fahad AlHumaidi, an accomplished architect with over a decade of experience, has managed the design and construction of several well-known buildings in Kuwait. His dedication to creating beautiful, functional spaces is evident in the award-winning GRND Coffee design, which was awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design Award in 2020.
