Chikako Matsuo unveils "The Belvedere," a house designed to showcase art and blend with nature, completed in 2022 in Okayama, Japan.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Architect Chikako Matsuo introduces "The Belvedere," a house designed to showcase art and blend with nature. The client's passion for art and artifacts inspired the concept of a house resembling a museum, situated on a hill to provide a commanding presence without detracting from the surrounding landscape. The unique use of brick for all walls seamlessly integrates the house with nature, while the entranceway and gallery space offer a welcoming and art-centric experience for visitors.
The wooden structure, with a flat roof and substantial insulation, ensures high quality and durability. The house boasts a surface area of 961.40 square meters, with a bed area of 335.77 square meters, and is located in Hayashima-cho, Tsukubo-gun, Okayama, Japan. The project, completed in 2022 after a 3-year period, reflects extensive research to address challenges such as summer heat and lighting requirements.
Chikako Matsuo's design for "The Belvedere" has been recognized with the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2024, acknowledging its practical, innovative, and industry-leading characteristics. Photographer Senichiro Nogami has visually captured the essence of this unique architectural marvel.
