Kohan Ceram Central Office Building, designed by Hooman balazadeh, introduces a revolutionary approach to urban architecture with the innovative Spectacled Brick, merging interior and exterior elements to create a new phenomenon.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kohan Ceram Central Office Building, designed by Hooman balazadeh, redefines the urban scenery by minimizing the formic expression of buildings as singular objects and emphasizing the city as a whole. The project, serving as the headquarters for Kohan Ceram Brick Manufacturing Company, introduces the innovative Spectacled Brick, a modular creature that integrates transparency and solidity, transforming the building into a volume with modular greenspaces. The Spectacled Brick not only forms the exterior facade but also extends into the building, creating a unique fusion of interior and exterior elements.
The Spectacled Brick, a combination of industrial brick and cast glass, revolutionizes the building envelope with its dual qualities, merging introversion and extroversion, transparency and solidity, and natural and artificial lighting. This innovative approach addresses the programmatic requirements of the project, including commercial and residential spaces, while expanding the commercial aspect of the brick showroom to the exterior and the city, forming a transitional role of the building as a complex of spaces in the building scale and a commercial object in the urban scale.
The project, which started in March 2016 in Tehran and finished in August 2019, overcame significant technical challenges in the making of the brick-glass block, resulting in a revolutionary architectural achievement. The design was awarded the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in 2021, recognizing its outstanding and trendsetting contributions to the world of architecture.
