Architect Anna Maria Sokolowska Transforms a 1940s Farm Building into a Coherent and Unobtrusive Living Space
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Architect Anna Maria Sokolowska has breathed new life into a 1940s farm building, creating a modern interpretation of traditional barn architecture in Rumia, Poland. The project, named "Stodolove," pays homage to the history of the site while seamlessly blending tradition with the present day.
The conversion of the existing farm building involved meticulous planning and attention to detail, resulting in a living space that respects the surrounding nature and climate. The exterior features charred Siberian larch and Scandinavian spruce boards, with black sliding shutters reminiscent of traditional barn doors.
Despite facing challenges such as strict conservation regulations and the impact of the pandemic on construction timelines and material availability, the project was successfully completed in June 2022. The design has been recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building, and Structure Design for its innovative and respectful approach to architectural transformation.
