Discover the essence of wabi-sabi in the tranquil and human-centered "Yue" restaurant, designed to embrace the beauty of modesty and rustic simplicity, completed in January 2022 in Hsinchu City, Taiwan.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Toby Lin's "Yue" restaurant encapsulates the wabi-sabi aesthetic, blending modern style with Japanese charm to create a serene dining space. The use of Suzuka cement texture, high definition printing board, natural weathered veneer, Italian slate tile, aluminum alloy tile, and bamboo charcoal metal plate reflects the rustic and primitive texture, offering a delicate balance of tension.
The 232 square meter space features a reception counter, a seating area, and private rooms, all designed to provide an unhurried dining experience. The dark-colored interiors, mellow wooden gratings, and large curved surfaces exude a calm and stable atmosphere under the yellow glow, while the open floor-to-ceiling windows allow ample natural light.
The space is divided into a reception counter, a seating area, and private rooms. The reception counter, made of hairline stainless steel panel, offers a stylish yet warm welcome, while the seating area provides unrestricted sight lines and a spacious, unconfined feel. The structural pillar features a hollowed-out circular screen with 3D mosaic tiles emitting a lustrous glow, adding extra softness to the silent space.
Structural short beams and large, curved surfaces in the public area ease the rigid and oppressive feeling, drawing the eye upward and creating a mellow atmosphere. The private rooms feature dark brown colors and seamless materials, offering a subdued ambiance for a comfortable and relaxing mealtime.
SGIANT SPACE DESIGN, led by Toby Lin, specializes in people-oriented design, offering residential, commercial, and office design services. The "Yue" restaurant design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in 2023, celebrating its outstanding and creatively ingenious approach that authentically embodies experience and resourcefulness.
