The One Hong Kong Design presents "Around," a modern and simple residential house designed for a DINK couple, completed in Guangzhou in April 2021.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The "Around" project by The One Hong Kong Design reimagines the traditional residential house concept, catering to the unique lifestyle of a DINK (Double Income, No Kids) couple. Spanning 200 square meters, the design reflects the couple's preference for a calm and restrained environment, integrating modern, simple, and natural elements.
Unlike traditional residential layouts, "Around" focuses on creating a flowing, through, and inseparable overall space effect. By avoiding static volume combinations and pursuing continuous moving space, the design achieves a sense of privacy and closure while breaking the norms of private house space.
Utilizing materials such as cement paint, wood veneer, and tiles, the project embodies a balance of modern aesthetics and functional design. The space features a greenhouse balanced central air conditioning and fresh air system, addressing the climate characteristics of Guangdong and ensuring optimal indoor conditions.
The project, which commenced in November 2019, faced challenges in creating open spaces while accommodating the owner's need for a fully open cloakroom. However, the design successfully transformed closed independent spaces into an interconnected whole, incorporating innovative solutions such as using curtains to replace walls and implementing hollow out blocks for storage cabinets.
Photographed by Ao Xiang, "Around" showcases the seamless integration of art, science, and technology, earning it the Bronze A' Design Award in 2022 for Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design.
