Afloat Studio Unveils Color Symphony Pavilion, a Festive Oasis in Hong Kong
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Afloat Studio, based in Hong Kong, presents the Color Symphony Pavilion, a dazzling installation that celebrates the first summer post-pandemic. The pavilion, located in an iconic landmark shopping mall, features layers of colorful acrylic panels that reflect sunlight, creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere for the public to enjoy. The design draws inspiration from the dynamic nature of Hong Kong, symbolizing hope, positivity, and the city's energy.
The pavilion's unique properties include flickering lights, fleeting shadows, and dancing colors, immersing visitors in a world of dazzling shapes and hues. The installation covers a floor area of 180m2 with a height of 8m, providing an inviting and exciting environment for the public to enjoy during the summer season.
The design and realization technology behind the pavilion involved close collaboration with production personnel to ensure the accurate translation of the design intent into the final manufactured components. The project, which started in March and completed in August 2023, overcame challenges related to coordinating with existing infrastructure, managing traffic flow, and aligning with the mall's aesthetics and branding.
Afloat Studio, co-founded by Pui Sze Kong and Ho Wang Owen Lam, aims to explore the ambiguous spatial quality of "in-between" space through blurred boundaries and tangling spatial experiences in architecture. The studio's commitment to creativity and resourcefulness has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design in 2024.
