YI JIAN ARCHITECTS introduces the Shantang Street Phase IV renewal project, aiming to revitalize the historic street with a 1200-year-old cultural legacy. The project, located in Suzhou, China, is set to inject new life into the neighborhood, restoring historical charm and introducing new commercial activities.

The project involves meticulous planning, architectural design, and landscape redesign to activate important historical clusters and drive the gradual renewal of surrounding buildings. By carefully preserving and restoring the original spatial structure of historical buildings, the project aims to match new business forms with the space, creating a unified and revitalized street landscape.

Respecting the historical significance of the area, the project focuses on maintaining the traditional style of local buildings in Suzhou, carefully restoring the original spatial organization, and preserving the unique neighborhood texture of the street, alleys, and patios.

The project, which began in August 2021, is still under construction and is set to bring new life to the historic street, providing public spaces for local residents and attracting tourists to experience the rich cultural background of the area.

The Shantang Street Phase IV Renewal Project has been awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in City Planning and Urban Design, recognizing its outstanding contribution to preserving historical heritage and revitalizing the community.
