Discover the innovative design of United Cinemas Urawa, a cinema complex that redefines the movie-watching experience by integrating a Cinema Museum and a Library Cafe, creating a harmonious space for intellectual stimulation and relaxation.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
United Cinemas Urawa, designed by Kunihisa Akiyama, challenges traditional cinema design by seamlessly integrating with the City Library and the shopping mall. The snow-white lobby resembling an art museum, the glass-in projection room, and the Library Cafe with 1000 movie-related books redefine the cinema experience, offering a cozy and intellectual environment for movie enthusiasts.
The innovative use of high-performance Acrylic resin emulsion white paint for antifouling and the glass walls of the projection room showcase the technical prowess behind this groundbreaking design. With 9 screens, 7,131 sqm, and a total capacity of 1665 seats, United Cinemas Urawa sets a new standard for cinema complexes.
The project, which started in 2005 and finished in 2007, is a testament to Akiyama's commitment to creating a space that fosters community engagement and intellectual curiosity. The design team, including Ichiro Katami, Naoyuki Suzuki, Yataro Matsuura, Sadahiro Nakamura, Kenichi Miyake, and Kunihisa Akiyama, worked tirelessly to overcome challenges and bring this visionary concept to life.
United Cinemas Urawa was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2018, recognizing its innovative approach to interior space, retail, and exhibition design. Akiyama's design concept goes beyond spatial and material considerations, aiming to create a new level of involvement for people, tenants, and the cinema, making a lasting impact on the global stage.
