FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Eva Wong Architects Ltd. presents Marina South, a residential flat that offers breathtaking views of the waterfront on Island South, Hong Kong. The design seamlessly integrates the outdoor terrace into the indoor living spaces, creating a visually cohesive atmosphere with elegant curved elements.
The renovation aims to declutter the existing layout, enhancing natural light influx and removing unnecessary circulation. The design embraces a zero-corridor arrangement, seamlessly blending the living and dining areas throughout the apartment. Glass doors provide direct access to the terraces, enabling a seamless integration between indoor and outdoor living spaces.
The design incorporates smart features to enhance hygiene, including touchless toilet flushes and smart controls for lighting and air conditioning. Durable and hygienic materials were chosen to address high humidity near the seaside, such as mildew-proof wallpaper, antimicrobial laminate, and mold-waterproof fabric.
Marina South boasts an indoor area of 1,657 ft² and an outdoor area of 600 ft², offering a stylish and luxurious living space with barrier-free access and modern amenities. The project was completed in July 2022, after starting in December 2021, in Hong Kong.
Eva Wong, the Director and Designer, led the project, accommodating the client couple's differing sleeping habits with a flexible layout featuring full-height double-glazed sliding doors separating the two bedrooms. Remote-controlled curtain blinds ensure privacy, and the layout adapts to the couple's needs throughout the day, providing a versatile living space.
In consideration of the couple's retirement plan, a barrier-free design was integrated to ensure future accessibility, with a specially designed barrier-free bathroom and wide access points to accommodate wheelchair passage.
The redesign of the irregular-shaped layout posed challenges, requiring reconfiguration of walls and room layouts. The design team also strategized ways to maximize natural light penetration throughout the apartment.
