Dr Aleksandar Rudnik Milanovic's Octagon Pavilion, inspired by Nikola Tesla's legacy and designed as a transformative expo landmark, has been awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design for 2025, recognizing its unique blend of energy efficiency, sculptural form, and future adaptability for global exhibitions.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Octagon Pavilion, designed by Dr Aleksandar Rudnik Milanovic, has captured international attention by winning the Bronze A' Design Award in the 2025 Architecture, Building and Structure category. Drawing inspiration from Nikola Tesla's iconic tower, the pavilion reimagines the structure for the 21st century, integrating a striking octagonal courtyard and a glass atrium supported by lightning-shaped columns. This innovative approach not only pays homage to Tesla's pioneering spirit but also establishes a new standard for expo architecture that combines sculptural aesthetics with functional versatility.
Standing at 57 meters tall and encompassing a gross area of approximately 215,000 square meters, the Octagon Pavilion is engineered for adaptability and sustainability. Its design allows for transformation from a world-class expo venue into a mixed-use commercial and residential hub post-event, ensuring long-term viability. The pavilion's observation platform atop the reconstructed Tesla tower offers visitors panoramic views, while the interior glass atrium creates a luminous, inviting environment. The structure's energy-efficient features, including a green roof park and solar energy integration, reflect a commitment to environmental responsibility and forward-thinking urban design.
Developed through a combination of hand sketches, advanced 2D and 3D modeling, and AI-enhanced post-production, the Octagon Pavilion exemplifies the fusion of art, science, and technology. The project's research delved into the evolution of communication from Tesla's era to the present, symbolizing the ongoing journey of scientific discovery and global connectivity. By overcoming creative and technical challenges, Dr Milanovic's design offers a blueprint for future expo complexes that serve as both cultural icons and sustainable community centers, particularly in cities that champion innovation and energy efficiency.
