FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Twist Bridge, designed by Ge Wang and completed in October 2021, stands as a striking new landmark in the Shunde District of Foshan City, Guangdong Province, China. Drawing inspiration from the fluidity and mystery of a twisted piece of paper, the bridge's dynamic, ribbon-like form reimagines the pedestrian overpass as both a functional connector and a sculptural addition to the cityscape. Spanning between Huagai Mountain and Fengling Mountain, the bridge not only provides a safe passage over a busy highway but also expands the city's mountain walking paths, inviting citizens and tourists to experience nature and urban life in harmony.
Engineered with a focus on structural stability and visual lightness, the Twist Bridge features a 65.6-meter inner length, a 71.2-meter outer length, and a 3-meter width. Its north section is supported by structural columns, with the main deck and inclined planes designed for both strength and cost efficiency. The unique twisted railing acts as a visual guide, offering unobstructed views of the surrounding landscape and city, while the bridge's ever-changing silhouette creates a memorable experience for both pedestrians above and drivers below. Multiple entrances and exits connect the bridge to nearby roads, commercial areas, and scenic spots, transforming it into a pedestrian transportation hub and enhancing accessibility for the community.
The Twist Bridge's innovative design has earned it the Silver A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2025, recognizing its outstanding technical execution, artistic vision, and positive impact on urban life. By connecting two major recreational areas and integrating seamlessly with the city's walking network, the bridge not only improves mobility but also enriches the living environment, making it a symbol of Foshan's commitment to sustainable and inspiring urban development.
