FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Haocheng Qiao's "Time Imprint" project, completed in December 2024 in Suzhou, stands as a pioneering model for therapeutic elderly housing in rural China. Inspired by the poetic vision of Tang Dynasty poet Wang Bo, the design integrates accessible courtyards, sunrooms for gardening, and interconnected caregiver-bedroom layouts. These features foster both independence and community, while prioritizing the safety and well-being of elderly residents. The home's spatial organization evokes a sense of pastoral leisure, contrasting sharply with the institutional feel of conventional senior facilities.
What sets "Time Imprint" apart is its seamless fusion of traditional Chinese aesthetics with modern, aging-friendly concepts. The structure employs eco-friendly materials such as carbonized bamboo, oak flooring, and granite accents, while incorporating clean energy systems and smart home technologies. Double-glazed windows ensure thermal efficiency, and vertical modular planters with automated irrigation promote sustainability. The design also features anti-slip rubber flooring, diatomaceous earth walls, and accessible bathrooms with antimicrobial tiles, all aimed at maximizing comfort and safety for seniors.
The project's technical sophistication is matched by its human-centric approach. Optimized pathways, handrails, and intuitive smart controls ensure ease of movement and rapid emergency response. Rooftop gardens and vertical green walls blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, enhancing ecological connectivity and offering residents opportunities for relaxation and gardening. By harmonizing functional safety, environmental responsibility, and cultural identity, "Time Imprint" provides a blueprint for future rural housing that meets the needs of China's aging population while celebrating its rich heritage.
