The Dongguan Zhongshuge Library, designed by Zhu Jun and located in the Songshan Lake Science and Technology Industrial Park, has been honored with the Platinum A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award 2025 for its imaginative fusion of industrial and magical elements, redefining the modern bookstore experience in Dongguan, China.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dongguan Zhongshuge Library, conceived by renowned designer Zhu Jun, stands as a testament to the power of innovative interior design, blending industrial motifs with a sense of wonder. Situated within the bustling Dongguan Songshan Lake Science and Technology Industrial Park-a hub for leading technology firms and advanced research institutions-the library draws direct inspiration from its high-tech surroundings. The design incorporates magical and industrial gear elements throughout its three floors, creating a cohesive yet diverse environment across the main reading area, children's section, and café.
The children's reading area is particularly notable, featuring an installation inspired by the Spallation Neutron Source Laboratory, one of only four such facilities worldwide. This centerpiece functions both as a striking visual element and a practical bookshelf, dividing the space into distinct reading zones. The café continues the industrial narrative, with factory-inspired lighting, furniture, and installations that seamlessly integrate with the overall aesthetic. The use of warm wood tones throughout the space softens the industrial edge, fostering a welcoming and imaginative atmosphere for visitors of all ages.
Spanning 123 square meters, the library's layout is meticulously planned to maximize both functionality and visual impact. The building's unique petal-shaped architecture, coupled with a rotating staircase leading to a natural viewing platform, enhances the visitor experience. The thoughtful arrangement of gear elements not only serves as decoration but also as functional bookcases, ensuring accessibility and engagement. The project, initiated in April 2023 and completed by June 2023, was subsequently showcased at the Songshan Lake Art District, further cementing its status as a cultural and design landmark in Dongguan.
