Award-Winning Reconstruction Project Blends Historical Preservation with Modern Villa Living in Istanbul

Ibrahim Halil TUGBAY's Reconstruction Project stands as a pioneering example of adaptive reuse, converting an old consulate in Istanbul into a luxurious, energy-efficient villa. The project, which began in January 2024 and completed its design phase in February 2024, is currently under implementation. TUGBAY's approach prioritizes the integration of modern living standards with the preservation of the building's original historical features, offering a unique blend of past and future in architectural design.

The transformation leverages advanced technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), highly insulated materials, and acoustically optimized panels to maximize comfort and sustainability. The design process was enhanced by CAD software and 3D printing, ensuring precision and efficiency throughout development. Notable features include the strategic use of natural light, open-plan spaces, and the optimization of indoor flow, all while maintaining the building's distinctive character.

The project's research-driven methodology involved historical and structural analysis, user feedback, and collaboration among architects, interior designers, and engineers. Overcoming challenges such as structural limitations and regulatory compliance, TUGBAY's team successfully demonstrated how historical buildings can be adapted for modern needs without sacrificing authenticity.
