Slow Bakery: A Blend of Artisanal Spirit, Sustainability, and Modern Retail Design in Magong, Taiwan

Slow Bakery, designed by Jing Ting Wu and realized by Round Delicate Design, has been awarded the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category for 2025. Located in Magong, Penghu County, Taiwan, the project stands out for its creative adaptation of a former garage into a vibrant bakery that celebrates both the owner's personal journey and the local heritage. The design draws inspiration from the owner's return to his hometown after years in Taipei's hotel industry, encapsulating his passion for artisanal baking and dedication to sustainability.

The bakery's most distinctive feature is its bread-shaped wooden entrance, symbolizing the owner's craft and inviting customers into a space that feels both nostalgic and contemporary. Inside, the use of natural wood tones, textured concrete, terrazzo counters, and pegboard walls creates an inviting yet professional atmosphere. Every design element, from the brass door handle to the ergonomic counters, is thoughtfully crafted to enhance customer flow, hygiene, and the overall retail experience. The integration of reclaimed materials and modular fabrication techniques underscores the project's commitment to environmental responsibility.

Overcoming the challenges of transforming a constrained garage space, the design team employed precise spatial planning, detailed CAD drawings, and a blend of modern and traditional production techniques. The result is a functional, aesthetically pleasing environment that supports efficient operations and showcases the owner's deep connection to his hometown. The award jury praised Slow Bakery for its technical excellence, innovative use of materials, and the way it introduces positive feelings and wonder to all who visit.
