Chiao-Yi, Tang's Serenity, a multifunctional cultural venue in Taipei City, has been honored with the Bronze A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award 2025 for its unique integration of museum, digital library, and Sinology research spaces, blending traditional Chinese aesthetics with contemporary sustainable architecture to create a tranquil environment that celebrates cultural heritage and ecological mindfulness.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Serenity, designed by Chiao-Yi, Tang and her team, stands as a groundbreaking cultural destination in Taipei City, Taiwan. Completed in August 2024, the venue is part of the Ching-Kuo Chi-Hai Cultural Park and serves as the first presidential library in the region. Drawing inspiration from the literary pursuits of ancient scholars and the architectural grandeur of the Forbidden City, Serenity offers visitors a space where calligraphy, paintings, and historical lecture halls converge with modern sustainability practices. The project's mission is to foster contemplation, clarity, and appreciation of both cultural heritage and the natural world.
The venue's layout features a central space for cultural relics, surrounded by exhibition halls, a global digital library focused on Sinology, a multimedia room, and a conference hall, all interconnected by a welcoming lobby, corridors, and a coffee shop. The architectural design maximizes natural light and scenic views, utilizing healthy materials and advanced technologies for temperature control, efficient lighting, and superior acoustics. Achieving Taiwan's Diamond level green building certification, Serenity exemplifies a commitment to environmental responsibility while offering a peaceful, immersive atmosphere that reflects the flowing forms and soft light inspired by traditional calligraphy.
Serenity's design is distinguished by its thoughtful integration of Eastern aesthetics and modern functionality. The interior employs a variety of calligraphy techniques-dense ink, rendering, and flying white-to shape the spatial experience, from solid, strength-imbued forms to open, sunlit areas that encourage seamless movement and reflection. The use of wood-textured ceilings, latticed structures, Carrara marble, and stacked stone blocks pays homage to historical depth and cultural continuity. With a total indoor area of 6,537 square meters, the venue accommodates diverse activities, from academic research to public exhibitions, establishing itself as a new social landmark that bridges history, culture, and sustainability.
