"I Land" Residence: Award-Winning Minimalist Urban Retreat with Panoramic Views and Seamless Storage Solutions

"I Land," designed by YU FEN LEE, is a striking example of modern minimalist living, perched high above the cityscape of Zhubei, Hsinchu. The project was conceived for an engineer seeking a rational, timeless sanctuary that eschews fleeting trends. The design embraces natural light and open space, with an expansive terrace and panoramic views that evoke a sense of floating above the city. Central to the concept is a fluid open-plan layout, where custom cabinetry and a unique N-shaped storage system subtly divide social and private zones without compromising the flow of light or movement.

The residence's central axis guides both layout and function, integrating pipelines and cabinetry into a seamless whole. Rounded-edge foyer cabinets welcome visitors, leading them into interconnected living, dining, kitchen, and study spaces. The study, which can be enclosed with a glass and metal sliding door, connects to the master bedroom, maximizing natural light and fostering a club-like atmosphere. The use of mineral-textured plaster, light-toned KD wood veneer, stone-patterned tiles, and metal and glass elements creates a calm, layered visual experience, while the color palette-30% low-saturation tones and 70% colorless elements-enhances the tranquil ambiance.

A key innovation lies in the invisible, pocket-like storage areas that maintain a clean, uncluttered aesthetic while providing ample space for a family of four. The N-shaped cabinetry system offers recessed storage accessible from multiple directions, ensuring that functionality does not disrupt the minimalist vision. Curved beams and columns, paired with soft lighting, create a cozy, floating sensation at night. The design's success is reflected in the family's praise for its balance of order, openness, and relaxation, making daily living both peaceful and invigorating. Recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award 2025, "I Land" stands as a testament to thoughtful, resourceful design that enhances quality of life.
