FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Henan Science and Technology Museum's new building, led by designer Wu Zhigang, stands as a testament to the fusion of historical culture, natural inspiration, and cutting-edge technology. Located on the scenic banks of Xianghu Lake in Zhengdong New District, Zhengzhou, the museum spans an impressive 110,000 square meters, with a total investment exceeding 2 billion yuan. As a public welfare project, it aims to enhance scientific literacy, promote science education among youth, and serve as a hub for technological innovation in the region. The museum's official opening on November 12, 2024, marks a significant milestone for both the city and the province, positioning the venue as a new landmark and a catalyst for community engagement in science.
The design process drew on a rich blend of influences, from traditional culture to modern visualization tools. Wu Zhigang's team utilized advanced software such as Rhino for 3D modeling, enabling precise spatial planning and the realization of complex architectural forms. The project faced and overcame significant technical challenges, including the construction of high atrium ceilings, irregular wall and roof shapes, and the integration of prefabricated concrete corrugated panels and anodized aluminum plates. The application of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology and parametric modeling allowed for accurate measurement, efficient collaboration among disciplines, and optimization of the design scheme, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and functional excellence.
The museum's construction incorporated innovative materials and processes, such as ultra-long, ultra-wide prefabricated panels and a robust steel framework, to achieve the desired visual and structural effects. Detailed construction documentation and on-site collaboration ensured the successful execution of intricate design elements, including the distinctive three-dimensional broken line shapes in the atrium. Despite a tight schedule and demanding conditions, the project team delivered a venue that not only meets rigorous technical standards but also provides an engaging and inspiring experience for visitors. Recognized with the prestigious Luban Award and the Silver A' Design Award in 2025, the Henan Science and Technology Museum sets a new benchmark for public exhibition spaces in China.
