Xiangcheng Paradise Walk: Merging Suzhou's Garden Heritage with Contemporary Experiential Retail

Xiangcheng Paradise Walk, designed by Shen Junwei and his team, stands as a groundbreaking addition to Suzhou's urban landscape, officially opening its doors in September 2024. Drawing inspiration from Suzhou's iconic water towns and classical gardens, the project's design concept-"dancing waters in forested streams"-seamlessly fuses the city's rich heritage with the ecological vitality of Xiangcheng. The result is a dynamic environment where tradition and innovation coexist, offering visitors an immersive journey through tranquil, lively, and exuberant spaces.

Spanning 145,000 square meters across six above-ground and two underground floors, the mall features four distinct themed zones: Water Runway, Moon Island, Water Lane Spaceship, and For Food. The centerpiece, Moon Island, is a pioneering 3,000-square-meter urban natural oasis located on the upper levels, providing a unique social and experiential hub unlike any other in Suzhou. The interior utilizes stone, wood grain, bronze, and white aluminum to evoke a natural atmosphere while meeting stringent safety standards, and a glass atrium roof bathes the space in natural light, blurring the boundary between indoors and outdoors.

The project's innovative approach extends beyond aesthetics, prioritizing social interaction, experiential retail, and community engagement. By integrating diverse business formats and optimizing spatial layouts, Xiangcheng Paradise Walk enhances consumer vitality and unlocks new commercial potential for the region. Its success is underscored by its receipt of the Golden A' Design Award in 2025, recognizing its role in advancing urban development, enriching the shopping experience, and setting new benchmarks for retail environments in China and beyond.
