Architectural designer Di Mo reveals a unique cultural center, "Mountain Waves," in Maotai, China, drawing inspiration from Chinese Shanshui paintings to reflect the region's rich culture and landscape.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Di Mo, a New York-based architectural designer, has unveiled "Mountain Waves," a cultural center in Maotai, China, inspired by the harmonious relationship depicted in Chinese Shanshui paintings. The site, nestled between two hills, provides a canvas for the design, reflecting the mountainous landscape's "waves" of mountains.
The project uniquely incorporates Shanshui art principles to honor and enhance the qualities of Maotai's rich culture and landscape. Traditional Chinese architectural prototypes, including alleys, courtyards, and halls, are utilized to create a rich experience for visitors, fostering a deep connection to the region's heritage.
Constructed using local fire bricks, perforated metal panels, wood, steel, and glass, the cultural center spans 90m in length, 100m in width, and varies in height, with a 10m-wide alley. The design features a landscape path that connects the center into two parts, allowing visitors to seamlessly interact with the natural surroundings.
