"Subtle Interplay of Ink and Glow" by JEN LIU: Award-Winning Sustainable Riverside Residence in Taipei

CHENGGUO INTERIOR DESIGN, led by designer JEN LIU, has received the prestigious Bronze A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award 2025 for their project "Subtle Interplay of Ink and Glow." Completed in January 2024 in Taipei, this 99.17 sqm residence stands out for its innovative approach to healthy, sustainable living and its harmonious integration with the surrounding riverside landscape. The project showcases a contemporary aesthetic, achieved through an open floor plan, graceful French doors, and a half-glass partition that maximizes natural light and creates a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Central to the design is the transformation of a formerly closed kitchen into an open-plan hub, anchored by a multifunctional kitchen island that serves as a prep station, storage area, and study spot. The communal areas are adorned with slab tiles in white, gray, and black, complemented by gray plaster walls and warm wood accents, fostering a sleek yet inviting atmosphere. The multifunctional room, featuring a raised platform and adjustable blinds, offers flexibility as both a study and guest room, ensuring privacy and comfort without sacrificing openness or interaction.

Sustainability is at the heart of the project, with the use of energy-efficient LED lighting, advanced appliances, and eco-friendly, recyclable materials. Every element, from the choice of finishes to the spatial layout, is guided by the principle of creating a safe, non-toxic, and enduringly comfortable home. The design not only enhances the quality of life for its residents but also sets a benchmark for responsible, forward-thinking residential architecture in urban Taiwan. The recognition by the A' Design Award underscores the project's excellence in combining technical innovation, creative vision, and a commitment to environmental stewardship.
