Kee Yen Lim's Fillet House: A Modern Tropical Masterpiece
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kee Yen Lim, an emerging architect from Malaysia, has unveiled the stunning Fillet House, a modern tropical residence that redefines architectural norms. Completed in December 2020, this residential marvel is a testament to Lim's innovative design philosophy and meticulous attention to detail.
The Fillet House stands out with its unique rounded corners and streamlined form, a response to the tropics, designated programs, and its neighborhood. The staggered filleted mass, elevated vigorously from its surroundings, showcases a palette of materials combining white, black, and grey curved solid planes with touches of timber and transparency of glasses.
One of the most striking features of the Fillet House is the crafted metal railing wrapping the concrete spiral staircase, creating a continuity flow of the filleted corners. The solidness of the spiral form is accentuated with random vertical metal plate rails, adding a layering effect to the interior. The sculpted spiral stair, framed by large glazing, invites the green scenes from outside to inside, creating a poetic play of light and shadow.
Spanning 1,100 square meters, the Fillet House is a true masterpiece of modern tropical architecture. Lim's design has garnered widespread acclaim, earning the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2021, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.
