"Happy Excursion" Model House: A Harmonious Retreat Inspired by Nature and Culture in Shenzhen

"Happy Excursion," designed by Shao Cheng and Tao Cheng, stands as a testament to the transformative power of thoughtful interior design. Drawing inspiration from the ancient philosophies found in Zhuangzi's "A Happy Excursion," as well as the poetic landscapes of Butterfly Isle, Northern Abyss, and Whale Cliff, the project seeks to offer a serene escape from the demands of urban life. Located in Shenzhen's vibrant development area and finalized in October 2024, the 418-square-meter model house seamlessly integrates natural elements and cultural motifs to foster a sense of freedom, tranquility, and connection with the environment.

At the heart of the exhibition hall lies a striking 3D wall crafted from Fantasy White Jade stone, which serves as both a visual centerpiece and a dynamic canvas for shifting natural light. The interplay of wind, light, and water is further enhanced by a stone-textured floor reminiscent of the blue Danube, giving visitors the sensation of walking above a tranquil river. The design's layered approach continues with undulating wall patterns, soft linen curtains, and a vibrant Amazon green floor, all collaborating to create a harmonious and immersive atmosphere. Innovative lighting techniques, such as the skylight panel's light film, infuse the space with energy and an ethereal quality, while the careful selection and finishing of wood elements add warmth and sophistication.

Every detail in "Happy Excursion" is meticulously curated to balance tradition and modernity. The project's organic materials, balanced color palette, and handcrafted finishes pay homage to local heritage while embracing contemporary aesthetics. The result is a sanctuary that not only functions as a model house but also as a cultural haven-inviting visitors to slow down, appreciate fine craftsmanship, and reconnect with nature. The Silver A' Design Award recognizes the project's outstanding expertise, technical innovation, and its ability to evoke wonder and serenity in all who experience it.
