Award-Winning "Echo of Serenity" Redefines Urban Home as a Sanctuary of Calm and Balance in Taipei

Echo of Serenity, designed by Tinway Cheng and Pei Yu Lo, has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award for 2025. Located in Taipei, this private residence reimagines the modern urban home as a sanctuary, thoughtfully crafted to guide residents from the chaos of city life into a state of calm and balance. The project's core philosophy is rooted in the belief that home should be a restorative space, achieved through meticulous attention to materiality, light, and spatial transitions.

The design's journey begins at the entry corridor, where dark stone flooring and warm wood walls create a grounded, cocoon-like threshold. This deliberate separation from the outside world allows residents to unwind as they move inward. Progressing into the main living area, the space opens up with seamless flooring, textured stone, and soft-coated walls, all bathed in shifting natural light that evolves throughout the day. These transitions foster a sense of openness and serenity, while carefully curated materials-ranging from cool stone to warm wood-balance depth, tactility, and warmth.

Echo of Serenity's technical realization is marked by progressive material and color transitions, with dark wood veneer ceilings and stone flooring in the entry giving way to lighter finishes and higher ceilings in the living spaces. The home is designed to be barrier-free, ensuring long-term accessibility and comfort. Soft furnishings and refined lighting further enhance the ambiance, softening rigid lines and creating an inviting atmosphere. The project's understated elegance, achieved by minimizing excess luxury in favor of precise details and harmonious textures, sets a new standard for urban residential design.
