Minquan Wang's Yunhai Shimen, inspired by Qujiang's mountainous landscape, has been awarded the Golden A' Design Award 2025 for its groundbreaking approach to mixed-use development, blending public space, office, retail, and residential functions in Quzhou, Zhejiang, China.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Yunhai Shimen, designed by Minquan Wang, stands as a transformative project for the West Zhejiang Agro-Tech Industry Park in Qujiang District, Quzhou. Conceived as a new catalyst for industrial and economic growth, the development challenges conventional retail podiums by unfolding into a series of cascading, interconnected platforms. These platforms, together with the striking "Cloud Deck" gallery and sky lobbies, create a multi-level public space system that encourages community engagement and urban events of various scales.
Drawing inspiration from the natural mountains and clouds of Qujiang, the design features clean, geometric forms that echo the surrounding landscape. The project's massing arrangement-comprising towers, podium, central gallery, and sunken plaza-works synergistically to establish a vibrant focal point for performances, gatherings, and civic activities. Outdoor platforms extend the reach of indoor programs, seamlessly integrating social activity with the built environment and maximizing the site's civic potential while adhering to planning regulations.
Yunhai Shimen's realization employs reinforced concrete for its main structure, a steel moment frame for the Cloud Deck, and a sophisticated curtain wall system of low-e laminated glass. The exterior is clad in anodized aluminum, stainless steel, and granite, combining durability with refined aesthetics. With a gross floor area of over 132,000 square meters, the development includes headquarters, rental offices, apartments, and a retail podium, all supported by nearly 900 parking spaces. The project's innovative approach to mixed-use design and its focus on public interaction have earned it the prestigious Golden A' Design Award, recognizing its significant impact on the future of urban development.
