Breezes of Sunshine: Award-Winning Residential Design Blends Nature, Art, and Family Comfort

Breezes of Sunshine, designed by CIOU DE LI, stands out as a transformative residential project that reimagines a decade-old, two-story home in Taipei into a serene, light-filled sanctuary. Completed in February 2023, the renovation focused on creating open, cohesive spaces that foster family togetherness, encourage learning and relaxation, and provide an enriching environment for all generations. The project's innovative approach to integrating nature and culture within a minimalist framework has earned it the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2025.

The design's hallmark features include expansive floor-to-ceiling windows that seamlessly connect the interior with the outdoors, flooding the home with natural light and offering tranquil views. A reimagined staircase acts as both a sculptural centerpiece and a conduit for sunlight, transforming previously dark areas into vibrant communal spaces. Artistic and cultural elements are thoughtfully woven throughout, from the use of natural Fukien cypress in the study to blue Fenix panels in the dining area, creating a poetic ambiance that celebrates both function and beauty.

Addressing significant structural and technical challenges, CIOU DE LI reconfigured the original partition-heavy layout, reinforced the building's integrity, and implemented advanced waterproofing solutions. The design prioritizes accessibility with barrier-free flooring and generous proportions, ensuring comfort for all family members, including elders and children. Sustainable materials such as solid wood veneers and marble underscore the commitment to environmental responsibility. The result is a harmonious, stress-free retreat that elevates daily living and exemplifies best practices in contemporary residential design.
