Toronto-based designer Long Wu has transformed downtown's Bay Street with "Petit Potato," a bar and restaurant inspired by biophilia and surrealism, earning the 2025 Bronze A' Design Award for its immersive, nature-infused escape that contrasts the city's urban landscape and redefines dining experiences.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Long Wu's latest project, "Petit Potato," has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design for 2025. Located in the heart of downtown Toronto on Bay Street, this innovative bar and restaurant offers a striking departure from the city's corporate bustle, inviting guests into an enchanting world where fantasy and nature seamlessly intertwine. Drawing inspiration from biophilic design principles and surrealist art, Wu's vision delivers a sensory journey that transports patrons far from the urban grind.
The 4,435-square-foot space is thoughtfully divided into three immersive zones: Luminous Lagoon, Ethereal Forest, and Spiritual Cave. Each area is crafted using organic forms, layered textures, and dynamic lighting that mimic the tranquility of underwater environments and the wonder of reimagined natural landscapes. Upside-down plant installations, reflective surfaces, and innovative lighting controls create a dreamlike atmosphere, while the transformation of structural columns into tree-like forms further blurs the line between the built environment and the natural world. Guests are guided on a fluid journey through these distinct spaces, with shifting lights and evolving moods ensuring every visit feels unique and deeply engaging.
The realization of "Petit Potato" required advanced 3D modeling, extensive prototyping, and creative problem-solving to achieve both aesthetic impact and safety. Materials such as textured tiles, reflective metals, and natural wood were selected for their tactile and visual qualities, while smart lighting systems enhance the immersive experience. The project's success lies in its ability to balance artistic vision with functional dining and social spaces, offering a much-needed retreat from the city's fast pace. The Bronze A' Design Award recognizes Wu's ingenuity and commitment to elevating quality of life through design, marking "Petit Potato" as a landmark destination in Toronto's hospitality scene.
