Charm House, designed by Louis Liu and completed in February 2024 in Taichung City, Taiwan, has been honored with the Bronze A' Design Award for Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design, recognizing its inventive use of space, light, and multifunctional storage to create a harmonious, modern home for a family of three.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Louis Liu's Charm House stands out as a thoughtfully reimagined 82.6-square-meter apartment, designed to meet the needs of a couple and their child. The project addresses the challenges of a long, narrow site and numerous sharp corners by employing block forms and rounded edges, resulting in a seamless spatial flow. Gray and white tones, paired with light accents, create a bright and inviting atmosphere, while a mix of closed and open cabinetry ensures ample storage without sacrificing aesthetics or order.
One of the defining features of Charm House is its multi-functional L-shaped entryway cabinet, which acts as both a partition and a display, delineating the entry, reading area, and bathroom. Frosted glass partitions enhance natural light and address Feng-Shui concerns, while reflective cabinets and widened corridors optimize both movement and storage. The design prioritizes daily living habits, ensuring that actions like changing shoes, storing helmets, or accessing keys are intuitive and efficient. The open-plan layout connects the kitchen, dining, and reading areas, with flexible spaces that can transform into a music room or yoga area, offering versatility for the family's lifestyle.
Charm House's realization involved the use of sustainable materials, including certified green building products, titanium-plated metal, and frosted glass. The design retained certain original fixtures while updating flooring and ceilings to reflect the owners' modern tastes. By minimizing partitions and maximizing natural light through large windows, the residence achieves energy efficiency and reduces its environmental footprint. The project's success is underscored by its Bronze A' Design Award, which celebrates its creative ingenuity, technical excellence, and positive impact on quality of life.
