A Modern Spiritual Residence Inspired by Zen Buddhism Theories
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Guoqiang Feng and Yan Chen have unveiled their latest project, One Jiyang Lake, a contemporary villa nestled in the serene surroundings of Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu Province, China. Inspired by Zen Buddhism theories, the designers have created a modern spiritual residence that offers a sense of tranquility and harmony with nature.
The property, with its brick-concrete structure, is a townhouse with limited private garden space, offering a unique challenge for the designers. The interior spans 535 square meters, complemented by a 200-square-meter garden, providing a peaceful oasis for its residents.
The design is characterized by the use of natural materials, such as bamboo for the exterior walls of the garden and white latex paint for the interior walls, reflecting the simplicity and ease of construction methods. The villa's layout includes a wine tasting area, guest room, living room, and small sunken garden in the basement, while the first floor features family public spaces and a garden. The upper floors house the bedrooms, each with its own small outdoor garden.
One of the notable design features is the bamboo fence surrounding the garden, providing privacy and creating a spiritual world of insight. Additionally, the designers overcame architectural challenges by incorporating an elevator and redesigning the staircase to enhance functionality without compromising comfort and accessibility.
Feng and Chen's design philosophy, rooted in Zen Buddhism theories, has resulted in a contemporary oriental living space that embodies simplicity, tranquility, and comfort. The project, which commenced in June 2018 and was completed in January 2020, has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2020, underscoring its outstanding expertise and innovation.
