Claude's Kitchen, designed by Mika Kanayama and her studio Muzo, has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award 2025 in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category. Situated in the bustling heart of Leicester Square, the restaurant stands out for its serene atmosphere, inspired by the concept of an outdoor courtyard that offers guests a peaceful escape from the city's vibrant energy. The design's smart-casual aesthetic, characterized by calming navy ceilings and abundant greenery, creates a harmonious environment that appeals to both locals and visitors.
The restaurant's layout is thoughtfully organized to enhance the dining experience, featuring a welcoming bar, three distinct dining zones, and two private rooms. Three strategically placed skylights flood the space with natural light, highlighting the unique ceiling features and reducing reliance on artificial lighting. The use of both traditional and modern materials-such as old and new bricks, bespoke metal panels, and reeded glass shelving-reflects a careful balance between heritage preservation and contemporary style. The design also prioritizes energy efficiency and safety, with materials and treatments selected to meet fire regulations without compromising on aesthetics.
Research and analysis played a crucial role in the project, focusing on optimizing spatial flow and user experience by integrating two previously separate premises. The resulting layout ensures seamless transitions between zones, fostering openness and connection throughout the restaurant. The project was completed over six months, overcoming challenges related to material selection and spatial coherence, and now serves as a model for innovative hospitality design in urban environments. The Bronze A' Design Award recognizes Claude's Kitchen for its technical excellence, creative ingenuity, and positive contribution to quality of life.
