TSAI, YUAN-CHANG Transforms a Classroom into a Modern Library for Children in Changhua, Taiwan

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Nan Hsing: Redefining School Libraries

TSAI, YUAN-CHANG has reimagined the traditional school library with the Nan Hsing project, located in Changhua, Taiwan. The inspiration behind this innovative design was to create a space where children can relax and study without restraint, allowing them to read in their favorite positions. The library, spanning 1494.780 sqft, underwent a complete redesign from February 2018 to May 2019, resulting in a modern, tranquil environment for young readers.

The Nan Hsing project stands out with its unique approach to interior design. By utilizing super wear-resistant floor tiles, laminate hard plastic sheets, plastic aluminum plates, and black mirrors, the space offers a serene and comfortable atmosphere for children to concentrate on reading and learning. The design also incorporates indirect light sources to create a calming ambiance, while the removal of the window sill area allowed for the installation of a high-platform window reading area, providing various seating options and a connection to nature.

This exceptional project has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2021 for its outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable level of excellence. The award highlights the project's strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, setting a new standard for school library design.
