Guanghai Cui's Maitreya Dharma is a groundbreaking architectural marvel nestled within the Xuedou Mountain Scenic Area, covering an abandoned quarry with a flower bud-shaped plan. The design provides a continuous space to accommodate 4500 people, serving as a pilgrimage site and a place for believers to pay respect to Maitreya, the future Buddha.
The project, situated in the Xikou Town of Fenghua District, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, ingeniously utilizes modern architectural technologies to repair the damaged topology of the site, creating a splendid interior that embodies the belief in Maitreya's kindness and salvation for followers.
The colossal space is covered by a single-shelled glass roof, symbolizing the future "Longhua Dharma Hall," while a vertical structural element inserted in the center provides ventilation and connects the ground and roof space. The project's total site area spans 144,977 ã¡, with a building coverage of 37,649.42 ã¡ and a total construction area of 55,574.78 ã¡.
The Maitreya Altar, the core of the project, is divided into four main parts: the Great Mercy Hall, the Longhua Dharma Hall, the vertical structure of Sumeru Mountain, and the Adytum of Tusita Heaven. The design represents the Jambudvipa and other Dvipas, serving as a significant venue for religious and cultural activities.
Guanghai Cui's Maitreya Dharma has been recognized with the prestigious Platinum A' Design Award in Architecture, Building, and Structure Design, underscoring its exceptional innovation and contribution to societal wellbeing. The project seamlessly integrates modern architecture with the authentic natural environment, embodying the Buddhist concept of conserving and nourishing nature.
