Liu Jinrui's Wandering in the Woods Kindergarten design transforms a liner into a woodland, providing a unique and innovative space for children's growth and development.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Liu Jinrui's Wandering in the Woods Kindergarten design is a groundbreaking project that reimagines the traditional kindergarten space. By transforming a liner structure into a woodland, the design creates an atrium running vertically through three stories, ensuring that all classrooms receive natural light from both sides. The columns and beams are ingeniously repurposed as trees and bridges, offering abundant spatial effects and creating a whimsical environment for children.
The design features continuous stairs and slides spiraling around the "trees," connecting and activating spaces, while "tree houses" provide private areas for children to read and engage in handwork. The facilities are thoughtfully benchmarked against the needs of children aged 2-6, with distinct areas for different age groups, soft colors, and materials to create a home-like space where children can express their potential.
Constructed in 2019, this innovative project has garnered acclaim, winning the prestigious Platinum A' Design Award in 2021. The design has not only transformed a previously limited and poorly lit space into a vibrant and engaging environment but has also set a new standard for kindergarten design in China.
