Computer College Renovation Showcases 2408 Studio's Innovative Exhibition Space Design

2408 Studio, under the leadership of Bennet Marburger, has completed a transformative project at Zhejiang University's Computer College, introducing a state-of-the-art exhibition space to commemorate the institution's 40th anniversary. The renovated spaces feature a minimalist design inspired by the college's technological focus, with a blend of light and dark schemes creating distinct atmospheres.

The project encompasses a multi-functional exhibition hall, a conference room, and a show room, all seamlessly integrated into the existing buildings. The exhibition hall and conference room boast a light design with white metal panels and grey terrazzo, while the show room, hosting changing exhibitions, follows a dark design scheme with anthracite metal panels and framing light strips.

Utilizing printed aluminum panels with built-in installations, terrazzo, and built-in linear LED lights, the innovative design seamlessly incorporates exhibition panels, video screens, cabinets, and security appliances into the wall panels. The lighting design of the show room combines linear LED lights with spots and down-lights, creating a dynamic ambiance.

The 900-square-meter project area, realized using Building Information Modeling (BIM), presented unique challenges, including the need to renovate spaces while they were still in use. The team overcame this by integrating exhibition information and objects into the wall panels, ensuring the main area remained free. Additionally, the show room's design allows for adaptability, enabling the presentation of different projects and research results each year.
