Designer Vincent Chi-Wai Chiang Creates a New Orient Style for Fine Dining Restaurant

Vincent Chi-Wai Chiang, the design director, has unveiled a groundbreaking design for IE Sushi and Teppanyaki, a Japanese fine dining restaurant located at K11 MUSEA, Victoria Dockside, Hong Kong. The restaurant's interior, inspired by the globalization of culinary influences, presents a fusion of Western Art Deco and Japanese aesthetics, offering a comfortable and private space for customers to enjoy a unique dining experience.
The design features a massive use of sapele wood to exude luxury, with distinct geometric patterns and decorative wood molding defining different zones within the limited space. The metallic dragonfly lightbox not only serves as an art decoration but also cleverly conceals the ventilating system, while the balcony provides an eco-friendly space for post-meal relaxation with solar Japanese floor lamps.
Chiang's design philosophy of achieving a balance between beauty, function, and cost is evident in this project, which started in March 2019 and was completed in November 2019. The design overcame the challenge of combining the minimalism of Japanese culture with the larger-than-life style of Art Deco, setting a new trend in the food and beverage industry.
