Discover the innovative transformation of an old workshop into an Intelligent Management Center
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Saiwen Liu's Iron Ore Center is a testament to the fusion of history and modernity. The design draws inspiration from the underground space of iron ore, resulting in a unique arch modeling of the interior space. The utilization of the distinctive gray of iron ore underground ironstone and the creation of a time tunnel feeling through linear lighting seamlessly connect the past with the present, making the central control hall design truly unparalleled.
With a history of over 1700 years of iron ore exploitation, the Iron Ore Center stands as a symbol of longevity and sustainability. The project not only meets the requirements of the current enterprise's central control operation but also incorporates an exhibition function, paving the way for future tourism development. By repurposing the old workshop into an intelligent management center, Saiwen Liu has successfully preserved the building's heritage while meeting the demands of modern functionality.
Spanning an area of 2373 square meters, the Iron Ore Center is a remarkable example of old workshop transformation, serving as a central control center and a future museum, all in one.
The project, located in Tieshan District, Huangshi City, Hubei Province, China, commenced in December 2020 and was completed in May 2021. This transformation project not only addresses the need for sustainable development but also sets a precedent for utilizing old buildings in a resource-efficient manner.
Overcoming various technical and creative challenges, Saiwen Liu successfully adapted the original building to meet the energy-saving and emission-reducing standards, ensuring a seamless transition from an industrial center to an intelligent management center. The project also marks the first mine intelligent management center in China, setting a new standard for industrial legacy preservation and utilization.
Recognized for its outstanding innovation and technical excellence, the Iron Ore Center was awarded the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2022. This accolade is a testament to the project's exceptional design and its ability to evoke positive emotions and wonder.
