Yangguang City No.9: A Fusion of FengHuang Mythology and Modern Aesthetics

The residential house "Yangguang City No.9" designed by Saiwen Liu in Xi'an, China, has been awarded the prestigious Silver A' Design Award for Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design in 2024. The project, which started in June 2021 and was completed in June 2023, is a testament to the innovative use of natural materials and the fusion of traditional Chinese mythology with modern aesthetics.

The design of the living room is inspired by phoenix tail feathers, symbolizing balance and harmony in Chinese mythology. The space features rationalized layouts and the application of aesthetic theory into practicality, creating an efficient traffic flow and accentuating the dimensions of space.

The use of natural-shell terrazzo and common red bricks not only reduced material costs but also contributed to the reuse of discarded shells, promoting sustainability and adding value to wasted shells recycling. The project's unique decorations, including side tables made of a saw blade and off-cut wood, further highlight the innovative approach to design and material use.

Despite the challenges posed by the relatively small floor area, the design successfully creates an elegant and dynamic living environment, offsetting the constraints of space and enhancing comfort.

The Silver A' Design Award recognizes "Yangguang City No.9" as a top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable design that illustrates outstanding expertise and innovation. The project showcases a remarkable level of excellence, introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder through its strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill.
