Yuchi Zhang's Trumen Seahaven is a captivating 360-square-meter entertainment space designed to unravel the complexity of puzzles in a modern setting. The space, completed in October 2019 in Kunming, is a recipient of the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2020, recognizing its outstanding expertise and innovation in interior design.
The design concept draws inspiration from the Mobius Band, with a cross-section composed of three cuboids, creating an ever-changing and rotating orange device that metaphorically represents the complexity, uncertainty, and impermanence of puzzles. The space is adorned with transparent tables and chairs, adding a wonderful atmosphere to the venue.
Trumen Seahaven stands out as an entertainment venue primarily focused on uncovering riddles, expressing a sense of reasoning and puzzle-solving from the moment visitors step through the door. The space exudes a modern and hard-nosed atmosphere, closely resembling the brain-burning reasoning ambiance of a game hall.
The realization of the design is achieved through cost-effective materials such as gray terrazzo for the ground, cement for the wall decorations, and emulsion paint for the ceiling, creating a striking contrast between matte and high-gloss surfaces.
The project covers three floors, with the first and third floors serving as game rooms, while the second floor offers a unique perspective across the street. The design also emphasizes the change of lightness on a unified gray tone, creating a progressive layer-by-layer visual effect in line with the reasoning game atmosphere.
Yuchi Zhang's Trumen Seahaven is a testament to the designer's ability to create a space that not only challenges visitors with puzzles but also immerses them in a visually captivating and intellectually stimulating environment.
