Yi-Yun Chang's "Straightforward Journey" is a residential apartment design that defies traditional residential styles, embracing a carefree industrial trend to create a comfortable and leisurable living space. The 53 square meter property, located in New Taipei City, Taiwan, was completed on June 15th, 2018, and showcases a unique blend of industrial trends and precise layout planning.
The design introduces a relaxed spatial sentiment into the tough styled foundation, deliberately leaving the wall between public and private spaces blank to create a visually relaxed spatial atmosphere. Overlapped functionalities create flexible life scenes, while the straightforward and carefree industrial trend refines the living sentiment into exquisite design vocabularies.
The designer values details for the overall space, preserving the primitiveness of the materials through nimble fingers. Original ceiling traces were maintained, and the designer removed the ceiling to keep the building's original look, replacing it with a French window to allow natural lighting to fill the room. Additionally, an iron piece door with iron grids was designed to address the issue of a bathroom without a window, consolidating the industrial trends design theme while adding functionality.
For the bedroom, the designer separated the space using a 45-degree line, allowing the room entrance to overlap with the bar seating space. The 45-degree straight wall serves as the circulation for the sliding door and the separating wall for the changing room, also functioning as the television wall for the lounge and the bedroom.
The project was completed in New Taipei City, Taiwan, and was awarded Bronze in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020. The design demonstrates a unique blend of industrial trends and precise layout planning, creating a comfortable and leisurable living space.
