Thoreau-Inspired Model House "Art of Simplicity" Showcases Unique Design Philosophy

Hsin-Yuan Lee, a renowned designer from Taichung City, Taiwan, has unveiled the "Art of Simplicity," a model house that recently won the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design. Inspired by the philosophy of American writer Thoreau, the project was completed on June 25th, 2019, in Taichung, Taiwan, covering an area of 140 square meters.

The "Art of Simplicity" embodies a unique blend of Thoreau's life philosophy and Lee's design principles. The space features a flowing water-patterned reception counter built with stone, creating a tranquil and dignified atmosphere using guest-welcoming pine, solid wood, and solitary bird elements. The design also incorporates architectural concrete in the discussion section, reflecting a sturdily Spartan yet peaceful ambience.

By infusing natural patterns of stone and rainforest-inspired textures, Lee has created an elegant and rich spatial environment that resonates with Thoreau's call to live deeply and embrace the essence of life. The project not only reflects Thoreau's philosophy but also draws inspiration from the Chinese philosopher Lao Zi, emphasizing the harmony with nature and the wisdom of great personages.
