Hsin-Yuan Lee's Blue Tone project is a testament to the seamless integration of form and function in residential design. The carefully planned layout of this 100-square-meter apartment in Taichung City, Taiwan, maximizes space and aesthetics, offering a tranquil and functional living environment.
The design features an open public space that seamlessly integrates a display shelf, elegant wooden storage, and glass elements to create a sense of tranquility. The wooden and blue tones highlight the peaceful ambiance, showcasing a unique balance even in contrasting colors.
The interior space, though not large, offers multiple functions and aesthetics through its planned layout. The entrance space cleverly transitions into the kitchen and foyer, with the kitchen cabinets serving as a partition and an end view to the dining room, effectively eliminating the restriction of the area's size.
The high cabinets in the kitchen serve as a border to the dining room, creating a gradual amplified effect between the spaces and breaking the restrictions of the venue's size. The back wall to the living room features a peaceful ink blue color, creating a tranquil color tone between the wood dining table and the wooden colored flooring.
The overall television wall uses polished cloud marble to accentuate the modest quality and content, while the raised ceiling and various media types create a modern yet natural sensation. The warm color tone with the cold ink blue allows the longitudinal space to appear spacious without hollowness, making the space the center of life.
The project, completed on April 26, 2019, in Taichung City, Taiwan, was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This accolade recognizes the design's outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and contribution to quality of life improvements.
