SODA, a leading architectural firm, has unveiled its groundbreaking "Secret Exhibition" at the National Museum of China, marking a significant shift in the presentation of cultural and creative spaces. The project, which began in May 2020 and concluded in December 2020, has transformed the museum's Cultural and Creative Exhibition Hall into a contemporary public space with a new narrative and normative.
Spanning 460 square meters, the exhibition integrates modern digital art with traditional Chinese aesthetics, offering visitors an immersive experience that breaks down the barriers of traditional museum merchandise spaces. Through spatial user experience and interaction, SODA has bridged the gap between physical and virtual interfaces, creating a seamless, interactive environment.
Visitors encounter historic and cultural products in physical space, while virtually immersing themselves in a digital river of Chinese characters derived from museum collections. The exhibition challenges the relationship between history, modernity, and people, initiating a new dialogue through contemporary aesthetic vocabulary.
The project faced challenges in converting the sales space into an exhibition space, ultimately complementing the products with island-like display cases to provide a new way to explore the National Museum's collections.
SODA's "Secret Exhibition" has been recognized with the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2022, celebrating its well-designed, practical, and innovative approach that meets professional and industrial requirements. The project has set a new standard for cultural exhibition spaces, offering a transformative experience for visitors.
