Memorial Landscape Design Commemorating World War II Victims Unveiled in Yilan County, Taiwan
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tsung Wei Yang, along with his team, has unveiled the Flowing Paperscapes, a memorial landscape design in Yilan County, Taiwan, commemorating the victims of the World War II air raid on the Zhongxing Paper Mill. The design, inspired by the geometric array, aims to preserve the imagery of the factory and honor the memories of the past while embracing hope for the future.
The Flowing Paperscapes, spanning 5600 square meters, uniquely depict the characteristics of paper through reinforced concrete, metal, manila grass, and native vegetation. The design not only serves as a memorial but also as an outdoor activity and leisure space for all ages, with different wave heights designed for children to play in safely.
The project, which took 5 months to complete, faced challenges in controlling the curvature of the waves, ensuring a smooth and consistent appearance. The design team overcame this by establishing specific rules for the landscape's construction, resulting in a seamless and visually striking memorial park.
