Residence of Hung: Redefining Urban Living

Benson Wu's Residence of Hung is a testament to innovative urban living, inspired by the highly-dense urban development of Taiwan. The design focuses on upgrading living space efficiency for a young couple, creating a leisurely holiday feeling in their home. The broad public field, open kitchen, user-friendly flow arrangement, and high functionality ensure privacy while accommodating social interactions.

The space features an industrial style tuned by a red brick house with a sense of laziness, integrating vintage industrial elements with a mild home atmosphere. Dismantled partition walls create an open public area, while the wood-patterned floor connects the living and study rooms.

Realizing the design involved reconfiguring the original interior layout to eliminate blind spots and enhance interior lighting. The use of colors, materials, and strategic wall designs further accentuates the unique characteristics of each living space.

With a glass partition in the multi-functional study room, the public space can be expanded to accommodate over 15 people without feeling crowded. The open kitchen and dining space encourage user interaction, fostering a warm and hospitable home environment.

Benson Wu's design research focused on an open layout, expanding the public field to double its size by dismantling one room and utilizing glass partitions. Material changes and visual effects were carefully considered to define the living spaces.

Overcoming construction challenges, such as irregular cross sections of old bricks and design complexities, required skilled craftsmanship and technical expertise. The end result is a harmonious blend of creativity, innovation, and comfort, redefining urban living in Taiwan.
