Renowned designer Hua Cheng unveils the transformative multi-residential project, Doctors of Design, inspired by the Japanese wabi-sabi philosophy, completed in New Taipei City from January to July 2019.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hua Cheng's Doctors of Design project is a testament to the transformative power of wabi-sabi philosophy in interior design. Inspired by the essence of wabi-sabi, the project aimed to create a harmonious living space by removing physical and emotional barriers between different areas. The design incorporates natural materials like blushing wooden veneer, laminate flooring, pattern glass, tawny glass, and pine solid wood panels, covering an area of 76 m2.
By tearing down the living room wall and remodeling the dining room, the project breathed new life into the clients' leisure time, reshaping the common areas to draw in more light and create a lighter, airier atmosphere. The innovative use of a glass accordion-style door in the dining room ensures privacy without compromising the sharing of light and space.
The project, which won the Bronze A' Design Award in 2021, successfully overcame the challenge of a claustrophobic layout by removing unnecessary walls and partitions, creating a more open and balanced living space. The design not only provides new opportunities for interaction and shared meals but also offers secluded areas for reading and reflection.
