Boonlert Hemvijitraphan's Rabbit Residence, a living space that blurs the lines between inside and outside
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Boonlert Hemvijitraphan's Rabbit Residence is a testament to the seamless integration of architecture and landscape, completed in 2017 in Bangkok, Thailand. This private residence spans 770 sq.m. and is a stunning example of living in the "in between space" in the landscape, creating an indefinite boundary between the interior and exterior.
The residence features a series of planar walls that create an in-between space, blurring the lines between solid and void, and seamlessly connecting the internal and external areas. The design is a result of Hemvijitraphan's vision to create a living experience that is in a constant state of flux, harmonizing with the surrounding landscape.
The design realization technology includes white plaster concrete walls with air captivity, tempered glass doors and windows with customized aluminum frames, white Carrara marble, steel doors, wood floors, concealed motorized mosquito nets, and granite stone, all meticulously integrated to achieve the desired aesthetic and functionality.
One of the challenges overcome during the project was achieving and maintaining the clean white planar walls, which required meticulous planning to integrate service shafts into the structure and prevent undesired extrusions. Additionally, custom aluminum frames were designed to withstand weight while maintaining a slim look, allowing for minimal visual interruption between the interior and exterior.
The Rabbit Residence received the Silver A' Design Award in 2021, recognizing its outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable level of excellence in architecture, building, and structure design.
Boonlert Hemvijitraphan, the mastermind behind this exceptional design, is an architect born and educated in Thailand, known for his ability to create architecture that speaks fundamentally to its place and time, showcasing his unwavering dedication to the craft.
