Reviving Heritage: Macalister Mansion Hotel

Chaos Design Studio introduces "Old English Embodiment," a boutique hotel design inspired by the classic elegance of London. The project, located at 228, Jalan Macalister, George Town, Penang, Malaysia, is a revival of the historic Macalister Mansion Hotel.

The restored colonial mansion, built in the early 1800s, features 8 uniquely designed rooms, each adorned with different marble slabs. The design seamlessly blends Edwardian, Victorian, and Art Deco elements into modern architecture, creating a luxurious yet homey ambiance.

The project, which began in August 2019 and concluded in September 2020, faced challenges due to the building's UNESCO World Heritage Site status and local heritage legislation. The design team overcame these obstacles by meticulously studying classical architecture and experimenting with hand-drawn sketches and 3D test renders to achieve the perfect balance of luxury and comfort.

Recognizing the exceptional creativity and resourcefulness of the design, Old English Embodiment was honored with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021.
